The Breckenridge Lady Bucks varsity volleyball squad, led by Head Coach Latisha Clark and Assistant Coaches Dakota Fowler and Jocelyn Gonzales, had its first opportunity to face other teams as the scrimmage schedule started Friday, Aug. 8 at Albany.

The team is led by a strong core of returning players, including seniors Lane Bartoskewitz and Preslie Malcuit, juniors Analia Palacios and Ashlyn Owen and sophomore Kamden Tidwell who got varsity playing time last season.

The Lady Bucks faced two teams in the scrimmage at Albany, starting the action against the Lady Lions and finishing up against Benjamin. Each match had a 45-minute running clock and the teams switched sides about halfway through each match.

While no official score was kept for the scrimmage, the Lady Bucks looked sharp out on the court and were communicating well. They played sound defense with strong digs.

There were several long rallies throughout each match as well, and the Lady Bucks stuck to their motto for this season, “Eyes Up,” which they communicated throughout. At one point in the second match against Benjamin, they went on a 6-point run with Malcuit holding serve. They would also score 10 of 12 points.

The next scrimmage for the Lady Bucks is the City View Scrimmage, Saturday, Aug. 9 in which they will face Petrolia, Knox City and Christ Academy.
